Passport Fair
Staff from the Rutherford County Library System will be hosting a passport fair in October!
Location: Rutherford County Administration Office (289 N. Main St., Rutherfordton, NC)
Date: October 14, 2023
Time: 9am to 3pm
Applicants will be seen on a first come, first served basis – no appointments needed!
What To Bring
All applicants, including children, must be present.
Children ages birth to 15 must have both parents listed on their birth certificate present. In the event that one parent cannot be present, Form DS-3053 must be completed and notarized before coming to the fair. A photocopy of the back and front of the non-appearing parent’s valid photo identification must also be included with the application.
Young adults ages 16 and 17 only need one parent present.
Please be sure to have ALL of the following with you:
- Two separate checks (personal checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders). One made out to the Rutherford County Library and one made out to the U.S. Department of State. See Fees section below for more information.
- Two copies (an original and one photocopy) of at least one of the following:
- Birth certificate
- Naturalization certificate
- Previous U.S. passport
- Permanent resident card (required for the child of a naturalized parent)
- A photocopy of the front and back of your photo identification (e.g. state-issued Driver’s License or ID card) for applicants 16 and older and parents of children ages birth to 15. You must also present the original of the same ID when submitting your application.
- A completed and unsigned application form (DS-11) filled out in black ink. This form may be picked up in advance at the library or filled out and printed from the US Department of State website.
- One passport photo. You can have these taken at local businesses such as CVS, Walgreens, Staples, and the UPS Store.
If you would like to have photocopies of your documents and ID made in advance of the fair, you can stop by the Rutherford County Library at 255 Callahan Koon Rd, Spindale, NC. Copies are $0.25 per page.
Please be aware that some situations may require additional documentation (adoptions, foreign births, name changes other than marriage, etc). If you have any questions, you can call the library (828-287-6115) before the fair and ask to speak to a passport agent.
