Kits & Specialty Items
RCLS provides numerous kits and specialty items that can be checked out for the standard two-week period. See below for descriptions of each kit collection. Click here for a complete list of all kits.
Bake something special without purchasing the pan – borrow it from the library! The library has a growing collection of novelty, character and specialty bakeware. Check any of these items out with your library card from our main library or place a hold to have it sent to either of our branches, Haynes or Mountains.
Thinking about a healthier lifestyle and not sure where to start? Try one of our Let’s Move! Fitness Kits. Our fitness kits were selected with several levels of skills and abilities in mind. Let’s Move! Fitness kits were purchased through generous grant funding provided by the RHI Legacy Auxiliary. The fitness kits are for adults only and must be checked out by an adult. Kits can be placed on hold and requested between libraries. Kits must be returned to the front desk at the County, Haynes, or Mountains Branch Libraries. CAUTION: Use of this equipment involves physical exertion and stress that may result in injury or death, including factors direct and indirect, as with any exercise equipment.
RCLS’s Read & Play Story Kits feature “grab and go” collections of five picture books on popular topics for preschool to primary audiences. Each kit includes five books on the theme, at least one CD, and two manipulative ranging from flash cards to puppets. All kits provide story extenders and an inventory list.
Each audio-enabled VOX Book has an audio reader with complete narration permanently attached inside the front cover. It’s ready for listening directly from the book — no CD, no computer, no tablet. Simply open the book, push the PLAY button and listen from beginning to end.
Looking for an entertaining yet educational way to explore our county? Check out one of two different types of outdoor packs. Our backpacks contain a variety of books, pamphlets, maps, and tools to explore our local flora, fauna and walking paths. Our backpacks were generously funded by our local Girl Scout Troop 1891 and the Hickory Nut Gorge Foundation.
Thanks to a generous grant from Duke Energy, the Haynes Branch Library has over a dozen “Maker Kits” available. These kits contain information and supplies to conduct hands-on experiments and building projects. The kits check out for two weeks and can be sent to any of the other Rutherford County Libraries upon request.
