Hello, my fellow true crime enthusiast friends!

Thank you for your interest in the True Crime Club at Rutherford County Library!

The format will be as follows: True crime club will meet on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM in the Non-Fiction room of the County Library. At each monthly meeting, we will focus on one well-known true crime case and/or criminal using a variety of materials and resources.

The library will supply a list of resources available about the case (via our website and email) about a month prior to the meeting. These resources will be a combination of both library materials and other free sources, and may include books, articles, podcasts, and videos. Each club member will be able to choose whatever combination of materials they want to read/watch/listen to, and then we can all get together to discuss during our scheduled meeting time.

Here is more information about the kinds of materials available and how to access them:

  • Accessing library books simply requires a free library card and an account in good standing to check out books and DVD’s. The library is glad to place books on hold or have them delivered to a convenient library location for pick-up if a patron requests.
  • Some materials (particularly articles, eBooks, and some videos) will be accessed via NC LIVE and a device (i.e., phone, tablet, or computer). NC LIVE is a collection of online databases that the State Library of North Carolina provides free for all NC residents. In order to access NC LIVE, you will need a free library card (including library card number), a PIN number set up through the library, and Internet access.
  • Some materials will be accessible simply with a device and an Internet or data connection. Such materials include YouTube videos, podcasts, websites, and blogs.
  • On occasion, there may be a documentary or other source on a specific case/criminal on Netflix, Hulu, or another subscription streaming or on-demand service. These materials may be included on the list of possible resources with the understanding that not all meeting attendees will necessarily have access to the entire list of resources.

Library staff is more than happy to help show anyone how to access the materials above. We are glad to explain how to access free resources via NC LIVE or use a free app to access true-crime podcasts on a smartphone or tablet (both require Internet connection, wi-fi is freely available at all 3 county library branches).

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns you may have, and we look forward to seeing you at the next meeting!

Best regards,
