The County Library has added Mango Languages to its growing list of online resources. Mango is free of charge to all Library patrons and is the easiest and most effective way to learn to speak a foreign language. Mango is available in two versions: Mango Basic:
Perfect for a foreign language beginner, Mango Basic teaches everyday greetings, gratitudes, goodbyes and helpful phrases in a short period of time. The courses, which require only two to five hours of time to complete, are currently available in 22 foreign languages and 14 English as a Second Language (ESL) courses. Mango Complete:
Mango Complete offers a 100-lesson course that digs much deeper and is designed to provide a more complete understanding of the entire language and culture. It is available in nine foreign language and three ESL courses. Foreign language courses include Chinese, French, German, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. NC LIVE just unveiled their new Business and Jobs Portal as part of their web site redesign. They also announced a new online resource, Job & Career Accelerator from LearningExpress, that contains tools for building your resume and cover letter, tips on interviewing, and job search links. Find the information you need for your school research paper or project using SweetSearch. SweetSearch limits your search to sites that have been reviewed and approved by a team of librarians and teachers, which means less digging through unrelated results and worrying about the accuracy of the information you find. SweetSearch also provides categorized links to other web resources and a biography section with information on over 1,000 important and interesting people.
Another service available from the makers of SweetSearch is findingDulcinea. findingDulcinea helps users locate credible and complete information online. Its principal sections: Web Guides provide a road map to exploring hundreds of topics online, with links to the best resources, ordered logically, and woven with narrative, insights, and research strategies. Web Guide categories include dozens of academic subjects, as well as health, technology, careers, and other topics. On This Day covers a broad array of intriguing historical events, with links to the best online resources that give a full exposition of the event - what led up to it, what happened that day, what has happened since. In each paragraph of these articles, we cite to the online resource where we found the information. Happy Birthday celebrates inspiring people, both historic and contemporary and from all cultures and walks of life, with a biographical profile that links to the best online information about the person.
