What book got you hooked? | Print |

"What book got you hooked?" is a campaign from First Book that lets you share the story of the book that got you hooked on reading and to vote for which state will receive a donation of 50,000 books for children in need.

From the website:

"What Book Got You Hooked?" invites readers everywhere to celebrate unforgettable books from childhood and help provide new books to the children who need them most. First Book asks visitors to share the memory of the books that made them readers and then vote for the state to receive 50,000 new books from First Book, helping to get more kids hooked on reading.

Past winners include Oklahoma in 2007 and Kentucky in 2008, with each state receiving 50,000 new books for children in need.

You can share your story or simply vote for which state receives the donation at http://booksforkids.firstbook.org/whatbook/index.php.

Story Time Begins Again! | Print |

The Rutherford County Libraries’ Story Times will begin again on September 15.  Jeannie Smith, or Miss Jeannie as she is known to the children, will be leading the educational sessions each week in Spindale at the main library on Callahan-Koon Rd. at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesdays, 11:00 a.m. on Wednesdays in Henrietta at the Haynes Branch, and 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays in Lake Lure at the Mountains Branch.

Preschool Story Times are designed for children ages 2-5 and younger home-schoolers, and consists not only of interactive, theatrical reading of stories, but also games, activities, songs, crafts, puppetry, and snacks designed around a weekly educational theme where children learn as they have fun.  They are free and open to the public as a service of Rutherford County to its citizens.
